Wight – Wight – 2023

Wight

Wight is an EP by the band with the same name. Apparently, there’s also at least one other band called Wight. And to make the confusion even greater, they both perform Black Metal. It’s no secret that I have a hard time with Black Metal too. Often the voice is.. well.. like black metal voices usually are. I don’t know if they go for the demonic possession kind of sound or if they want to sound like demons or something. But I sure have a hard time with it. I have the same problem here. I cannot stand the vocals, even though I have heard much much worse in that department. Another thing that I have a hard time with is that there usually seems to be just one tempo in all songs. It sounds too similar to me. Full speed and tremolo picking all the time. However, I felt that there are some nuances on this EP that were refreshing. there are parts that slow down the songs and make them a little more interesting. The third thing I have questions about is why the sound quality usually has to be so bad? I know this often is a conscious choice from the artists. And I know the reason behind it really. But I still don’t get it. Why do you want your music to sound bad, without dynamics and clarity so that you actually can hear what the band plays and sings about? Not saying that Wight sounds horrible bad, because they don’t. But I still don’t like it very much.
