The Girl in Cabin 13 – 2021

The Girl in Cabin 13

The Girl in Cabin 13 has a great storyline. Simple but very effective! It might not be very original and we have seen it all before but still, it’s a very frightening premise. We have this couple going off the some remote cabin far away from civilization to get away from it all. To get away from everyday life and to just relax free from social media and everything that makes ordinary day-to-day life ordinary. Possibly is it also the fact that have been harassed in their home just before that made them seek the quiet atmosphere of the forest and the fantastic view just at this moment.

It doesn’t take long until they notice that everything is not right and it seems like somebody is watching them. The guy tries not to upset his girlfriend and she cannot really stay off the social media but keeps recording stuff to upload to her Instagram when they get cell service again. You know what happens next. The men that they first notice at a distance start terrorizing them and get closer and closer to the cabin. They knock on the door and try to shatter the windows. It’s an effective story in that way and the perpetrators are wearing cool masks as well. Classic setup!

That is also the problem with it. It’s too classic and the acting is pretty bad. There are no real emotions coming out from the actors and the dialog doesn’t come naturally. It feels like rehearsed lines and that’s never a good thing. Even when they’re supposed to be scared out of the wits I don’t feel anything. I don’t care what happens to them at all. I’m more interested in why it’s happening and if we will get a clever explanation for all of it. Why are they stalking them? It feels obvious that it’s the same group of people that started scaring them in their home to begin with.

There was not a satisfactory explanation for me. There were some morals in there though. That you shouldn’t share everything online with everybody. You never know what sickos is out there. Some things should stay private and everything shouldn’t be about getting more followers on your Instagram or other social media. The Girl in Cabin 13 could have been a ghastly experience but it fell flat for me.
