Sass Jordan – Bitches Blues – 2022

Bitches Blues

I kinda remember the first time I heard Sass Jordan, it wasn’t Bitches Blues for sure. Although I remember the time of the acquaintance, I can’t remember what songs or what album it was. I do remember that I wasn’t too fond of it at the time though. When I listen to Bitches Blues I can understand why though. What could this amazing voice attached to Sass Jordan have been doing that I didn’t like? Maybe it was me being too attached to Metal back in those days. I really don’t know. What I do know is that I take everything negative back that I might have said. Bitches Blues is by far the best new album I’ve heard this year. I absolutely adore it!

Blues-rock

The musical style is best described as blues-rock. There are elements of harder rock on there as well but the common denominator is the blues for sure. Oh, as that voice! I need to explore everything Sass Jordan has sung on. Now. Immediately! Such soul, such heart in that voice. It’s impossible to not fall in love with. But how to describe it? Well, I think that a really hoarse Tina Turner is a pretty good description. Sass Jordan was born in Britain but you can’t tell from the accent. No wonder, as she move to Canada when she was three years old. I guess if she still had a British accent I would have compared her to Bonnie Tyler instead.

The music on Bitches Blues is mostly pretty sparse instrumented. That means that Sass’ voice is the main thing to listen to. There is no real extravaganza in the other departments. Of course, there is core instrumentation but nothing that distracts from the overall impression. Guitar, bass, and drums of course. But also some organ and piano.
