Prisoner X – 2016 – Terrorists from the future
X is apparently a very scary letter. Ether if it’s Prisoner X, Citizen X, or even Planet X, there’s always a mystique to it. I understand that that is the whole point of course. But I still find it odd that we use this particular letter to describe something that is unknown to us, something scary och horrifying. I’m sure there are other examples as well.
Very Strange
Prisoner X starts out as a very strange movie. We have someone held prisoner that claims to be from the future. He has information about things he should be able to possess otherwise. Like when stars are collapsing and things like that. He’s a very mysterious prisoner and as the film progresses we get to know some more details. But as this is a mystery movie of sorts we just get enough information to get it interesting. There are so many things that are still unknown that we can only speculate on. We have a mysterious death of the former interrogator, a proposed suicide but that seems very illogical.
Fast forward to another interrogator steps in. She is supposed to come in and help the former one but finds him dead. Therefore she not only has to deal with the prisoner interrogation but also solve the mysterious death of her predecessor. There are madness and hallucinations going on all the time as well. Who’s to say what is real and what is false? It’s obvious that the film I set sometime in the future even if it’s never displayed in plain sight. There is knowledge of time travel even if making hasn’t cracked the answer yet. Maybe it’s because Prisoner X claims to be som the future and has given some clues on the matter.
1999/09/09
He says that he’s not alone either but that he traveled back in time together with others. Apparently September 9th, 1999. This is an interesting date in its own merit. But it’s soon explained to us that the number nine is very important in the Muslim community. I don’t have enough knowledge about the religious aspects of this number to even comment on it. But I’ll take that as a fact. And if it is made up for the movie, then it’s true in this movie’s universe at least.
Anyway. Has been held captive for 17 years I think. Which will mean that this is not set far in the future at all. Prisoner X was made in 2016 and 1999 is… guess what… 17 years prior to that. That means that it’s set in the present of course and that there’s no real science fiction involved at all. It sure doesn’t show in the environment. Sure, there is some high-tech equipment, but nothing that couldn’t exist already. Apart from some mysterious stuff belonging to Prisoner X.
Some thoughts
Enough rambling about the premise and the plot now. What you really what to know is if it’s a good one – right? Well, I found it pretty entertaining. It has a little too low a pace for my liking but it’s certainly interesting. Maybe they should have made everything a mystery. It’s a little vague sometimes. It’s not hard to follow along but there are some far-fetched ideas in there as well. There are thoughts about manipulating the world to go in a special direction which almost brings the Illuminati to mind. But in the end, it seems to me like a religious movie. A movie where Muslims seem pretty much extinct and come back from the future to take revenge.
It’s a dangerous concept to comment about right or wrong with religious beliefs. But I believe it has certainly caused wars in the past and will quite probably cause more wars in the future. I think it’s in human nature to think that “we” are right and “they” are wrong. Therefore “we” must convince “them”. Certain groups are more hostile toward dissents than others of course but I do believe humanity is getting closer and closer to “getting along” and accepting that all people’s beliefs are not the same.
