Post Apocalyptic Commando Shark – 2018
I spend a lot of time on social media. I may not write too much on there but I read a lot and on occasion I get tips about movies done by people I never heard of. Post Apocalyptic Commando Shark is such a movie. Mostly these movies are horror flicks of some sort and when reading the title I thought nothing else of this one. Taste the title – Post Apocalyptic Commando Shark – what do you think? To me, it definitely sounds like an animal creature feature horror film. And of course, it is a Creature Feature of sorts. There is a crazy(?) scientist injecting people with a serum to turn them into this Commando sharks. Fair enough still sounds like a horror flick. But it isn’t! This is most definitely a comedy! If it were something else it would be so far of its mark that herrings would have legs.
And, as a comedy, it’s hilarious! I don’t think I laughed this hard to a movie for several months. Sam Qualiana, the writer and director of the film, clearly understand the cliches of the genres and uses it for a comedic effect. Everything you may find in a (bad) sci-fi flick where the Russians and Americans is at war with each other is taken to an absurd level and mocked with. I absolutely love the humor. Yes, it’s overacted! Yes, it has bad special effects. But all that has a point! It wouldn’t be so funny if the Commando Sharks were top notch makeup effects. What fun about it is that the story is utterly absurd and that the rest of the production follows the same principle.
It’ll take a very special kind of audience to appreciate it though. That’s what I think. It will take a nutcase, such as myself, to really enjoy Post Apocalyptic Commando Shark. I’m afraid that too many people will just turn it away and deem it rubbish (which it’s certainly isn’t!).
