KK’s Priest – The Sinner Rides Again – 2023
The Sinner Rides Again pretty much continues what Sermons of the Sinner started. If you liked the first album by KK’s Priest you ought to like this one as well. I think it’s easier to recognize Judas Priest’s sound from some era on this one though. It’s something about the drumming that makes me think of Painkiller. Sure, there are fast drumming with lots of double kicks but it must be more than that. I just can’t put my finger on it. I think there is something about the guitar scales as well. Something is familiar. Ripper Owen does a great job with those high-pitched vocals that I really like though.
The Sinner Rides Again. KK’s Priest sophomore album suffers a bit from the same thing that the first album did though. Although I didn’t reflect on it at the time I published the former review. The songs are good, fast, aggressive, and all that. But the production values are not totally there. It sounds good, but not great. There are those little things missing in the arrangement that are hard to put your finger on. Just small drum or guitar fills here and there could have raised the overall experience a lot. There are also not many noticeable and catchy guitar riffs.
But I like it! I’m just not as overwhelmed as I was when I wrote about the first album. I think that I’m more “fair” and down to earth when writing about this one. But now I also have a bit more experience of what KK Downing and the rest of the guys are about musically. Check it out, I think you’ll like it!
