Kiss – Animalize – 1984
Animalize is really a crappy album! Fortunately, it has Kiss’s big hit from the 80s – Heaven’s on Fire as a magnet, which makes it bearable, or even decent at times. Besides this, though, it’s a genuinely worthless record with very few memorable melodies, and honestly, I’m not quite sure what they’re up to! It feels like they didn’t really want to release an album but had to since Lick It Up came out the year before, and they had just unmasked themselves and needed a bit more time in the spotlight.
By the way, Animalize was the only album with Mark St. John as a member of the band. He replaced Vinnie Vincent as the guitarist the same year the album was released. Eric Carr plays drums, and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who also wrote all the material, handle rhythm guitar/bass and vocals.
