Killer Tomatoes Strike Back – 1991

Killer Tomatoes Strike Back

Killer Tomatoes Strike Back is the third movie in the Killer Tomatoes series. It was the first one I saw and I thought it was hilariously funny back in the day. I’m not sure if it’s released at all on DVD but I have an old VHS copy of it. The quality isn’t very good but at least I can enjoy the movie. It’s obviously a comedy as well as the other three movies. I have not seen them all to this day though. I might have to do something about that! As I remember it, I wasn’t too fond of the first movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes but it was a looong time ago so I guess my memory can play games with me. I think I will watch it shortly.

Killer Tomatoes

In Killer Tomatoes Strike Back we get to follow this cop who is getting all of the Killer Tomatoes cases. He doesn’t like it and isn’t taken very seriously. Of course, he doesn’t take it very seriously either. He’s kind of a clown actually. I’m not sure if this is a character created in the earlier installments but it would seem that way. When I first saw Killer Tomatoes Strike back I didn’t care much and I don’t care much today. If the character is a leftover from the previous films, so what? I guess the continuity will gain a bit from it but I’m more into the absurdness and stupidity of the story.

Stupidity

And by stupidity I mean the kind that is totally on purpose. If I were to compare this to something that most people have a relation to. It would probably be Naked Gun or Top Secret. There are a lot of things going on that are just plain entertaining. Stupid things that nobody shouldn’t ever have thought of. There is some slapstick humor and some dad jokes I guess. Many times there’s a point to be made oven the actors that are overplaying their parts quite a bit.

John Astin

Of course, as a fan of John Astin, mostly famous for the original Addams Family series I guess, I couldn’t enjoy this more. He’s such a charming loverly actor even if I think he has been playing these weird oddball characters far too many times. Perhaps he wanted to? Perhaps he was typecasted? I like him and if I see a movie he’s a part of I want to see it! To be honest, I don’t recognize any other names in the cast but there’s a place for everyone I think. John Astin doesn’t have the lead part but he makes a damn good screwball villain!
