Hailee Steinfeld – Half Written Story – 2020

First of all, I want to say that I don’t think this sounds half-written in any way. Second of all, I love the artwork. Now, the artwork has little to do with the musical experience of course, but it does attract och detract the listener. I tend to be more interested in exploring stuff where the artwork attracts me in any way. You can usually tell what kind of music you’re gonna get from the artwork too. But in this case, since I never heard of Hailee Steinfeld and combined by this artwork it could’ve been just about anything. It could’ve just as easily been a punk rock album as the pop RnB it really was.

It sounds pretty nice. I like Hailee’s voice and the songs too. What I don’t like is the frequency of the bass. This instrument should stay on the bottom and when it’s very emphasized, like in this case, it needs to bring something extra to the music. In this case, I don’t think it does that. It is just in a high frequency because people should hear the beat more easily. In my opinion of course. I have a hard time standing that really. If this were a full-length album I probably would have turned it of. But I can deal with it for a 5 song EP. It lowers the listening experience quite a lot for me though.
