Guardians of Time – 2022
The main plot in Guardians of Time is about four cousins together at a mansion. There, they discover a hidden door which in turn leads to another hidden door and soon they are in an enchanted forest. Sound familiar? It should if you even grew up in a cave. This seems to be as much theft of the Chronicles of Narnia as it could be. Rest assured, that is not the only story, or movie Guardians of Time has borrowed from. For starters, there’s a lot of Jurassic Park in there as well. It’s really farfetched that the two franchises combined would actually work.
I am a fan of fantasy movies. I have seen a lot of them and I like them even if they’re children’s movies. Maybe even more so sometimes. You get that cozy feeling of family fun. Like an easygoing adventure that they used to show in the afternoons on Swedish television when I grew up. Guardians of Time is certainly easygoing. It doesn’t complicate itself too much for any purpose. Certainly not for the good of the story which is a textbook example of what a fantasy flick should be. So much that you know all along what is going to happen, and who the bad guys are even if the movie tries to hide it somewhat from us.
I like it, but I shouldn’t
For what it’s worth, I still like it! But I think that says more about me than the movie itself. It really isn’t a good movie. The plot alone should raise alarm bells all around it. The acting is overall terrible. Sometimes I get the impression that some of the actors are just reading the dialogue from a teleprompter – for the first time. There’s no emotion whatsoever involved. Some of the core cast is forgiven though and not all awful. In fact, they are the only ones with a reasonably large role to carry the movie acting-wise. The special effects are pending between awful and quite good at times. But unfortunately, the good times are spare and far between.
As I said, I’m a huge fan of Fantasy movies so I hope that the sequel-friendly ending will spawn a sequel just for the sake of it. But I doubt that this will be a hit for anyone except the real hellbent fantasy film fans like me
