Cobra Cult – Don’t Kill the Dark – 2022
Don’t Kill the Dark is Cobra Cult’s second album. They’re fronted by a female singer/guitarist, but I have a hard time hearing the gender of the singer. Now, that I know it, I can hear it, but before I thought it was just a typical Power Metal Vocalist. They usually sing in high pitches. Not that it matters a bit though. I think she does a great job. She fits the music well. It’s pretty straightforward Hardrock with some Punk influences I think. When I listen to it I hear kind of the sound from Early Iron Maiden. Obviously without Steve Harris’s characteristic bass sound. Oh, and I also found out that they’re a Swedish band!
I think the production should be a bit less “dirty” but I would bet important parts of my anatomy that this was exactly the sound they were going for. When I read up a bit on them I see that they’re influenced by bands like Motörhead, Ramones, Bad Religion, and of course Iron Maiden. Don’t Kill the Dark, is kind of melodic, kind of raw, and kinda attitude-ish. I like it. I just wish that it was a little more polished (for once).
