Black Star Riders, Thin Lizzy without Lynott
The members of Black Star Riders have a history in another band called Thin Lizzy. No introduction is needed but apparently they’ve continued to tour and considered themselves to be more of a tribute band. That seems natural because there couldn’t really be a ‘real’ Thin Lizzy without Phil Lynott who died in 1986. It would be just as impossible as having Motörhead going on tour without Lemmy. It’s just… wrong!
So the member of the last line-up of Thin Lizzy formed Black Star Riders and this is their third album I believe. Fans of Thin Lizzy will recognize the sound right away. It sounds more or less exactly like Thin Lizzy, minus Phil Lynott of course. I think it’s a fine album even though it’s a tad too long. You tend to get bored before it’s over. Nice songs all the way through but there’s something missing. Something that is hard to put your finger on. It’s nicely played and all that but it need some additional nerve.
