Bermuda Island – 2023

Bermuda Island

Bermuda Island is not really about the Bermuda Island. Well, it kinda is, but still not. There are mysteries for sure and it deals with unknowns. But let’s start from the beginning. There are a few events leading up to the airplane lifting off and going to Costa Rica. There’s a criminal in custody onboard and a few other strong characters. It seems to men that they tried to create a rich gallery of characters. It might be a little too much, but sometimes less is more. But I have to admit that some of them are really fascinating.

It’s a really violent movie to begin with. The tone for the uncompromising violence is set early on and it’s really entertaining when there’s absolutely no remorse for killing. This goes for both the bad guys and the supposedly good guys. But there’s a question about that. I don’t think there are any good guys at all on Bermuda Island. It just seems so but there really aren’t. And, if there are, they certainly won’t live long enough to talk about it.

The Plane Goes Down

Anyway, the plane goes down. That’s the whole idea. We want them to find themselves on a remote island somewhere and we want to experience unexplained mysteries. Well, it’s unexplained to begin with, and possibly even at the end, but it’s not the kind of mystery I was expecting. What they find on the island is something else. When looking for food and building shelter they come across these avitve who are all but friendly. If they’re human? hard to say, I don’t think so. They don’t look so and they don’t really seem so. Therefore I guess calling Bermuda Island Cannibalistic is literary wrong. But still, it’s close enough so I won’t rule it out. There are flesh-eating creatures for sure, and the survivors find themselves an enemy.

Bermuda Island

Of course, as in many survivor movies, there is internal strife among the survivors. Almost a little like Lord of the Flies. Of course, these are not kids but adults. And, it’s not subtle. There are soon two different groups and they don’t hesitate to kill each other if necessary. I wonder why we humans always need to have power over others. I think the thing should be to stand against the common enemy instead. But maybe that’s just me.

Bermuda Island is an entertaining movie at times. Sometimes it’s just tedious. I would have liked a little more mystery, a little more Bermuda Triangle mystery even. But I’ll settle for what I got. I got some guts and gore and lots of death. Not that it’s a gore move for that sake but they don’t shy away from the blood either.
