Barenaked Ladies – Gordon – 1992

Gordon

My first encounter with Barenaked Ladies was with the album Stunt, as I’ve mentioned before. By chance, I recently found Gordon (very) cheaply and of course, invested in it. One more album to explore before judging or condemning, I thought. It turned out to be a stroke of luck because this quickly became one of my favorite albums at the moment. Humor is present all the time, and describing Barenaked Ladies as a band with a twinkle in their eye would be a gross understatement. It’s witty lyrics and lively melodies that catch on almost immediately.

Musically, Gordon falls somewhere within the pop realm. But I can easily find country and even a bit of skiffle here and there. Essentially, it doesn’t really matter how you categorize it. Boyband or not, it’s genuinely uplifting to listen to and enormously catchy. With the acquisition of this album, I also realize that it won’t be the last time this band’s albums end up on my shelves. I’ll definitely be getting more eventually!
