FILM, MUSIC and LITERATURE
666 is the debut album by Dutch all-female rockers Cobra Spell. These ladies has attitude! The music is bluesy hardrock that kind of reminds me on some of Whitesnakes material, especially the vocals. Of course I’m not saying that vocalist Kristina Vegas voice is similar to that of David Coverdale. It’s just the way that it’s performed and sung that seems highly recognizable. 666 as an album seems very 70’s classic hardrock overall even though...
Dirty & Divine is the sixth studio album from the Swedish all-female hardrock band Thundermother. I’m really not too familiar with the band but from what I’ve heard through the grapevine they’re supposed to have a great musical drive. I’ve also heard that this album differs a bit from the previous ones. I’ts nothing that I really have first hand information on though, even though I will expore further after listenning to Dirty & Divine....
Vanishing Vision is the debut album om Japanese Metal act X Japan. At the time of the release they just called themselves X though. Apperaltny this was mean to be a tempoary name until something better came along but I guess the name stuck. At least partly. I have read up a bit about X Japan and they seem to have an “interesting” story to say the least. There is information about the breaking up...
New Horizons Pt 1 is and album by Heleven from 2023. Heleven is a new acquaintance for me. Although I think I heard the band name before, I don’t think Iä’ve actually heard the band. Surely not this album anyway. I was a bit surprised when the introduction heavy drums and inventive guitar riffs was transferred into something that was not growling or aggressive vocals. I’m not sure what this genre of metal is called...
Black Light/White Noise is the second Smith/Kotzen album. Adrian Smith is of course first and foremost known for being a member of Iron Maiden. Ritchie Kotzen is harder to place for me. He was in Poison at an early stage, he was in the supergroup Mr Big. At preset he fronts The WInery Dogs. Neither band is something as I know from the back of my hand. AS mentioned, this is the second collaboration and...
Between the Lines is an album I know nothing about. Nor do I know anything about The Price Sisters. I can pretty easily find some basic info, that they’re twins etc. But I think this should be about the music anyway. I don’t care if this is their first och fourteenth album. I’ve always be fond of Bluegrass. Not that I really know why but there’s something about the tempos, the harmonies and the banjos....
Into the Future was the only full length album of the band Rhoads. For me, Rhoads make me think of the late guitarist Randy Rhoads and since I never heard about this band before I made some assumptions. I shouldn’t have. Rhoads has nothing to do with Randy. I think the band name instead should be pointed towards the vocalist Kelle Rhoads, who apparently is the brother of Randy. It’s a small world isn’t it?...
Dream Evil is a Swedish Power Metal band. They were formed in 1999. I may have heard them before but I’m not sure. At least it’s not a band I usually listen to or have loads of references to in the back of my brain. I guess the band name is inspired by the Dio album by the same title. Maybe I’m over analyzing this but that is my conclusion. I listened to a few...
Revenge of Iris. Gamera is back, the Gyaos have returned in greater numbers than before and once again they threaten all life in Japan. But this time they’re not alone. Iris, an old mythological monster – a legend, is awoken as a young girl discovers an egg in an ancient cave. The egg hatches and brings the baby Iris to life. Soon, however, it has grown to a gigantic size and threatens the world as...
Monster is Kiss’ last studio album. Unless if they don’t decide to make a comeback. But I doubt it. Three years before Kiss releases the excellent album Sonic Boom. It was an album that I found to be unexpectedly good and had catchy melodies. The expectations for this album were thus high. Surely the guys (who may not be guys anymore, at least not Gene and Paul) could deliver an album of the same caliber...
12 Angry Men is one of those films that is set in very few locations, or even just only one. They demand far more tension than other films. 12 Angry Men takes place almost entirely in a single room. I say “almost” because the beginning and the end don’t quite happen there. The film begins with a trial that has just concluded, and the jury is given its instructions. They are to gather in a...
8 Million Way to Die centers around Matthew Scudder portrayed by Jeff Bridges. He is a former cop who, due to his alcoholism, now has no real home, no wife, and no job. He’s enrolled in AA and is trying to put his life back on track. Out of nowhere, he’s approached by a high-end sex worker who asks for his help. She wants to quit but is terrified of her pimp—at least, that’s her...
Living Dark: The Story of Ted the Caver is a long title. It’s too long to repeat really. Therefore, I will refer to it simply as Living Dark from now on. Apparently, Ted the Carver is some kind of urban legend that I never heard about. When I read about it briefly I find that it originates from the early 2000s and is a text about someone exploring a cave. The further into it he...
