AC/DC – High Voltage (Australian Edition)
High Voltage was AC/DC’s first album released in Australia in 1975. It’s a bit confusing since an album with the same name was released internationally the following year. The tracks are not the same though. On the latter, parts of the original Australian T.N.T. album were also included. Or if we should be frank, most of it is from the T.N.T. album. This means that High Voltage in its original Australian Release features songs not on the international albums.
I’ve always said that I was a fan of Bon Scott and never cared much for Brian Johnson’s singing style. I also said that I liked the simplicity of the early stuff. It’s more rock n’ roll to me, whilst the Brian Johnson era seems to be more show. When listening to this debut album though. I’m not impressed. You can hear right away why Malcolm Young is considered to be one of the best rhythm guitar players of all time. I think he had a built-in metronome in his brain or something. But the songs are rather dull for the most part. I still like Bon Scott’s voice and all that but there’s something missing. Something that might come into play later when I continue with my exploration of the band.
I start off ready to praise The original High Voltage album but at the end, I’m quite disappointed. You can certainly hear which band it is already from the start but it get boring up to the very end. The best track in my mind is the finishing Show Business.
