Marshall – Iron Horse – 2020
A while ago I wrote a review of Marshall’s latest album Old Rockers Never Die and now it’s time for the previous album Iron Horse. You will immediately recognize the sound if you have heard the latest album. It’s pretty similar, both in sound and songs actually. But first I need to clarify that the questions I had when reviewing Old Rockers Never Die were answered by Fred Marshall on Twitter just a couple of hours after the review was posted. The sound was quite deliberate, and since this is very similar I concur that “garage sound” is exactly what was aimed for here too. The cover art was thought through and since this shows railway tracks and is called Iron Horse I don’t think there’s any doubt about the message with the image.
As I said, I think these two albums are pretty similar. In essence, they could really have been a double album. If you like one of them you’ll likely like both of them. I think that the songs on Iron Horse might be a little strong for me. But that’s just my personal taste. But as the opening song Bitch Don’t Cry reminds me very much of a riff I wrote 25 years ago so, I guess I’m a little biased. And just to clarify, I don’t think it was stolen from me and even if it was It worked much better in this song than in my context.
This is what it seems to be, nothing more and nothing less. Classic guitar-driven hard rock. I think you should check it out. Unfortunately, it’s not available in any physical format yet. But there are streaming services at your disposal. Oh, and please check out Marshall’s site here fmarshall.com/. Any news should come up there.
Thanks a lot again Tommy!!!! best wishes!!!!
