Wolvespirit – Change the World – 2022

Change the World

Wolvespirit new album, Change the World, is the first I have heard with them. I actually never heard about them before either, which is a shame, because I really like this! The band essentially has three members, the brothers Oliver-, and Richard Eberlainm, and the vocalist Debbie Koye. These three contribute organ, guitar, and vocals. There are of course drums and bass on the album too but from what I understand, Marco Tullius (bass), and Martin Straube (drums) are not really a part of the band. They’re more like hired musicians. That’s what I read anyway. I might be totally wrong, but at least they’re not in the core of the band.

The music on Change the World is like a crossover between Hardrock, maybe glancing towards the ’70s and almost power metal at times. Not so much for their music but for the fantasy-filled lyrics. But then again, Debbie Koye’s vocals tend to be kind of operatic at times. Not at all opera mind you. But that kind of theatrical approach you sometimes can find in just Power Metal bands. It’s pretty hard and heavy and there are lots of great melodies. Sometimes I get the feeling that they have been listening to songs like Summer of ’69 with Brian Adams and It’s raining men with The Weather Girls. Not that the whole songs on Change the World are anything like that but bits and pieces, some intros, and some riffs that seem familiar. Although I must point out that it isn’t really riff-based music as you would expect from a metal band. Because it’s not Metal, it’s a crossover of sorts.

A really good album that I would encourage everyone to check out!
