The Librarians
There are plenty of series that focuses on collecting and locking away magical artifacts. We have Friday the 13th: The Series, Supernatural, Warehouse 13, Relic Hunter and we have the Librarians. I’ve always loved this kind of series and this is my newest addition to them. It is based on a trilogy of movies released a few years before starring Noah Wyle. I loved them and when I first got acquainted with them I didn’t know what it was. I was overwhelmed and soon learned that the even was a series.
Of course, the series is somewhat different. There wouldn’t be any point of just repeating what already has been made, would there? I mean, it might not differ so much from the other series or in spirit, but there are more characters and Noah Wyle as the Librarian is toned down. I’m just a few episodes into the first season so I don’t know how much he will appear yet but I guess it will be sparsely. I’m sure that he won’t portray the Librarian in each and every episode and when he’s there, he will not be the main character.
The reason for this is based on the first couple of episodes. A few apprentices are recruited and in the adventure that follows the Library disappears. To make a long story short. Noah leaves to search for the library itself while leaving the others o attend to “less important matters”. I don’t know what is more important, to find the library or to save humanity? Maybe that will be clarified later on but I don’t think so. I think each and every episode will concentrate on a single object/artifact and that Noah will appear now and again.
That works perfectly for me. I like the chemistry between the others. Of course, the characters are kinda wooden, but that is part of the concept. We need to have some special personalities the create contrasts and possibly intrigues. I think it’s safe to say that all will be there for everyone else in the end though. No one will be totally egoistic even if it will seem so from time to time. A friendship is being developed.
So far I lie this series a lot. I think itäs great fun and the stories are about all kinds of magical items. Not just really occult stuff that you might expect. But of course, in the end, this is a show about Good vs Evil. I don’t believe that the evil will ever win though. Evil might win some battles but never the war.
